ER visit

We had our first child ER visit this past Saturday night. Brenner was going down the stairs--which he usually does just fine--and somehow fell. I was upstairs, Wayne was in another room and neither of us saw it happen. When we picked him up blood came pouring down his head. (Head injuries--always major bleeders.) Once I got the blood slowed enough to look at the wound I thought he might need stitches. So we dropped the other boys off with a family in the ward up the street and headed to the ER here in town. They had about a three hour wait, so we called a doctor in our ward and he said he would look to see if Brenner would really need something. Since his head was cotinuing to bleed, our friend told us to go to an ER up in Omaha that had a Pediatric Express. So we went there, got right in, and Brenner came home with this...

can you see the one staple? His cut is small, but needed to be closed to stop the bleeding, so he has one staple. They don't even numb for that either; they just point and shoot. Poor little guy. Funny thing was, except for when people tried to touch his head, he was perfectly happy. He was in the waiting room smiling and charming everyone. And once the staple was in and we released his head he just wanted to sit on the chair and read a book. Our little trooper.

With three boys we're guessing this won't be the last ER visit, but we're hoping this won't be a common occurance.

I DID IT!!

*SO I had this done on Monday, but I have been waiting for the results before posting. Since they don't seem to be coming soon I'll have to put them in later.*

I did my first sprint triathlon this past Saturday! It was in Hastings, NE. It was a 500 yard swim, a 9.8 mile bike ride, and a 3.1 mile run. And I did it! YEAH! It may not seem big to some, but it was a nice accomplishment for me. I had a lot of fun doing it and I am anxious to do another one.

We headed over to Hastings (about two hours directly west from here) on Friday afternoon and that evening there was a dinner for the participants and their families. It had been raining on the way over and as we left the dinner that night it was snowing outside! That got me pretty nervous. But we woke up to sunshine--COLD temperatures--but sunshine.

It was very cold! The forecast said 38 degrees with wind chill of 27. The wind was blowing between 20 and 30 miles an hour and gusts were stronger. The first about 3 miles of the bike ride was directly into the wind. That was not a fun part, but after that everything felt great.

Here are some pictures.

This is me starting out on the swim.

If you notice there are two people per lane. Lucky me I got in a lane with a guy who swam back stroke and veered back and forth across the whole lane. I accidently swam over him once and had to dive under him about 4 times! It was crazy.

Me taking a breath...it looks like I'm waving

me in green heading out on the bike leg (it was really cold--I don't know how some crazy people wore shorts)

coming in on the bike leg...

heading out on the run...

video of me coming into the finish...

me crossing the finish line...

and my wonderful hubby rooting for me the whole way. (Loved the sign!)

And I have to give a HUGE shout out to Wayne. He has been such a big support through all of this. He's taken the kids when I wanted to go out for a run or bike ride, we joined the YMCA which he never gets to go to because he's always traveling, I bought new shoes, race clothing, not to mention registration fees and gas to drive over there, and he's never complained or had any hesitation through any of it. And he's always telling me how proud he is of me. It has made the whole thing that much more enjoyable knowing my best friend is right there with me. I love that man more than I can say. Wayne, your the best!

My next one is in June and I'm hoping for a few more through the summer.

Aiden turns 4! (Last month)

It may be a month late, but I have been told that everyone likes to see the pictures anyway...so here you go.

Aiden turned 4 on April 2. His birthday was on a Wednesday and General Conference was the following weekend so we decided to celebrate on his birthday. Wayne took a day off and we pulled Parker out of school.

In the morning Wayne took the boys--except Brenner--to get haircuts. Then we did a lunch birthday celebration. You can see Aiden is pretty excited.

This is his cake. It has a number 6 because Aiden bowls with a 6lb., green marble ball and he insisted that his cake look just like his bowling ball. Up until the night before his birthday he was asking for an elephant cake so this was done very last minute. But he was happy.

I put this picture in so you can see classic Aiden. Look at his goofball face.

Aiden getting ready to make a wish.
The brothers enjoying the fun.
Aiden received some great presents...

but the grand finale came when we had him close his eyes and... TAH DAH!
A bike helmet. The sweet kid didn't even noticed the bike on the floor for about 2 minutes. Then he looked down.Brenner thought it was pretty cool.

After all the presents and cake we headed to the bowling alley. We got there at about 12:30 and there was nobody...we had the place to ourselves! It was great!

Professionals in the making??

Brenner is always strapped into something--it's easier!

After bowling we came home and watched Aiden's new video, "Bee Movie". It was a very fun family day and we all had a great time.
